Create Space for the New to Enter Your Life
What does creating space for the new mean? It
means saying no to things, people, habits, and behaviours that are
not serving you well. By saying no to what you don’t want,
you are creating space for what you DO want to enter your life.
Clearing physical space means giving away things
that are cluttering your physical environment, such as:
• Clothes that no longer fit you
• Too many clothes. If you haven’t
worn something in six months, this is a sign that you may have outgrown
it.
• Shoes/makeup/accessories
• Paperwork
• Information that you haven’t used
but are hanging onto because you think you might need it one day
• Anything else around you that makes you
cringe when you think about it.
Here are the spiritual reasons for giving away to make space
for the new:
• By giving away the stuff we don’t
use, we are being generous and charitable, making sure that things
are put to good use.
• We believe that the Universe is an abundant
place, and things will always be there when we need them. So, we
don’t need to hang onto things out of fear of not having enough
for the future.
• And my favourite: We never really own anything.
Nothing ever stays the same. Nothing is permanent, and we are not
attached to things of the world. We know that we have certain things
today and will have new things tomorrow. Today we may be living
in this house and tomorrow we may be somewhere else. We are keeping
the flow going, knowing that there is a season for everything.
What about spiritual cleansing? Are you hanging
onto habits that you need to let go of? Perhaps you are hanging
onto emotions that no longer serve you, such as fear, resentment,
or self-sabotaging behaviour. Anything that drains you of the joy
of living today, in the moment, needs to go. As I made a list of
the emotions I need to let go of, I had my beautiful mastermind
group help me, hold me, love me, and nurture me through the painful
emotions to make room for new emotions to enter my life. I always
say to my clients that coaching is not about being perfect. It is
about accepting ourselves in the midst of imperfection, willing
to ask for help during difficult moments. If you don’t have
support in your life right now, to ask for help in dealing with
and letting go of difficult emotions, then I encourage you to seek
the help you so deserve.
How about relationships? Are there people in your life who are draining
you of precious energy? Are there relationships you have outgrown?
Take heart! If you want new relationships to enter your life, then
make room for them. Create the space by letting go of what isn’t
working. You don’t have to do it all in one day. Just be aware!
Perhaps you are in a close relationship that you don’t want
to let go of, but you know you have just been playing safe. You
can change the way the relationship works by taking a risk to do
something different. It may require stepping out of your comfort
zone, but it is worth a try!
How about making space of time? Do you like to
fill your space of time by just being busy? If your goal is to have
more fun in your life, then perhaps you need to evaluate the activities
that fill your space. Which of those activities do you really like,
and which do you do because of external pressures?
Why not delegate things that you no longer need to do, and
make time for the things that best use your time and talent?
This month, I hired an assistant so that I could let go of the administrative
work and open up space of time for clients who want to benefit from
my coaching services. Since I only like to work during the hours
that my son goes to school, having an assistant gives me flexibility
to focus on coaching calls. Be creative about delegating the things
that you don’t need to do yourself. One of my clients tripled
her income by focusing her energy on what she was good at and finding
creative ways to give away what she didn’t like, without actually
hiring anyone. You, too, may want the help of a coach, mentor, or
friend so that you can focus on what is truly valuable to you. Give
yourself the gift of asking for help to create space for new things
to enter your life.
Let go of whatever isn’t serving you—because there are
no external pressures or rules, only an internal and eternal beautiful
you. A unique you. Honour yourself; create space for everything
to enter your life so that you can shine your light!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms!
